Abstract: The rise of global history has aroused widespread attention in the history profession around the world. For the past few decades, the impact of global history has been confined to the historiography of world history; yet in recent years, the global history perspective has made itself felt in efforts to reform local American history and gradually picks up momentum to form the movement of globalizing American history. This paper offers a comprehensive review of the movement, including its history, theoretical framework, major shifts of orientation in American history teaching and research, as well as an anticipation of possible challenges.
